This trimester has flown by, but I have accomplished a lot in this class. I'm happy to say that I officially know how to take a good picture. I'll have to keep practicing to become better, but at least I have the necessary knowledge. I know so much more about cameras and how to manipulate them to my benefit. Before this class, I had a low understanding of what actually happens when you change the settings to a camera. Now, I can choose the best settings for my pictures whenever needed. The pictures below show my growth from the beginning to the conclusion of this class.
Not only did I learn how to take pictures, but I learned how to make them look better or manipulate them in Photoshop. I had prior knowledge of Photoshop from other classes I have taken, but I definitely learned some new tricks. I feel more confident in my ability to use Photoshop now than I did before this class. The clone stamp tool was completely new to me, and I'm really happy I know how to use it now. The editing that I did to the car showed me how to problem solve within Photoshop. A lot of tools came together to make this final product. I made a few mistakes along the way, but I managed to figure them out using both new and prior knowledge. This class has taught me many new things, all of which I am happy to know. I think that having a general knowledge of photography and Photoshop are important in the world we are living in. This class has made this trimester fun by giving me a break from the school work and allowing me to do something creative. I am content with my decision to take this class, even though it took me all four years to finally get around to it.

During this motion demo I learned how to pan in order to make my subject sharp and background blurry. I focused on the spot that I would be taking the picture, and then when the bike started moving towards me I followed it with my camera the whole way through. I learned the correct shutter speed and whether or not I should zoom in to make it turn out better.
This picture is of me, me, me, me, and me. This Photoshop assignment taught me quite a bit. I learned how to use layer masks to my advantage. I learned the concept of revealing and concealing using the brush tool. I made sure to use a soft brush when necessary. I also learned how to add adjustment layers to make my picture have a "look." Overall, I learned how to fix my mistakes through trial and error.
I've been wanting to take pictures of animals for a while now, but I've been waiting for the weather to work out. Since this is the last week, I figured I better do it now. I took pictures of my dog Huey this week. It was a struggle to get good pictures because he is not a huge fan of doing what I say. I found the best pictures were taken when I threw him cookies because it really showed him in action. I wish I could have taken them in a better setting, but my deck was the best place for the two of us to be together. I am happy with a lot of the photos I took, mostly because I just love taking pictures of my dog.
For this assignment, I took photos of Kaitlyn and Selina. While taking Kaitlyn's photo, I used the window light with an assistance from the white sheet of paper for reflecting the light. For Selina's picture, we used the lighting set up in the Hornet Hub. Each photo turned out pretty well, showing that it is possible to take good portraits with different lighting situations.
The beautiful weather this weekend brought me downtown, and I decided to bring my camera with me. None of the places I went fit any of the assignments, so I decided to make this my black and white week. I really like the black and white look, and I think these pictures worked pretty well. I had to use my own camera this weekend, so the quality of the photos feels a little less than they usually do. It was also difficult to take pictures in such a populated area because a lot of people were around where I was taking pictures. For my open tutorial, I decided to do water color. I chose this option because I really liked how the example looked and the tutorial seemed doable. I then picked out a picture that I thought would look good in water color and followed the instructions. I am very happy with the results and glad to know how to do this now. // Link: http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/
I ventured around the school to find pictures that would look good taken with a wide shot. These are the photos I ended up with. I am pretty happy with them for my first time taking panoramic photos. I learned how important it is to keep stable settings and an even shot all the way across.
This week I chose to photograph nature in my backyard. There is a bit of a forest back there that I wanted to go into because there's a lot to take pictures of back there, but it was too overgrown to get back there right now. I ended up taking pictures where our garden grows in the summer. It would have been easier to take pictures of a flourishing garden, but I enjoyed finding appreciation in the winter state of our garden. My main struggle during this shoot was getting my camera to focus correctly. A lot of pictures came out unfocused, and I would work harder next time to prevent that from happening.
This week I chose to shoot macro. This was the best option because I didn't have an opportunity to go out and photograph anything. All of these pictures were taken from inside my house. Pictured are some paintings, stained glass, and Murano Glass cups. It's hard to tell how well the pictures will turn out when taking them because the details are so important. I was hoping that some of them would have turned out better, but they aren't as bad as they could have been. I learned how difficult it can be to shoot subjects so close up. It makes every detail important.
